Millions of dogs are being put to sleep (euthanized) weekly all over the United States. People are surrendering their pets to the local shelter at an alarming rate due to the economy. Pets are not throw away commodities. If you can't afford your pet, find a good home for it or take it to a Rescue group. The chances of it getting a home through your local shelter are slim due to the limited space and the volume of dogs and cats they receive on a daily basis. It most likely will be euthanized, sometimes in as little as three or four days. They just do not have room. I know of one shelter that is putting down 8 or more dogs per week. There are many very desireable dogs and cats at your local shelter who need loving homes. If you can, adopt a pet from your local shelter today. You won't regret it. Dogs aren't your whole life, but they make your life whole. Please don't shop, adopt.

I hope you went peacefully over the Rainbow Bridge on that dreadful day. It isn't fair that you had to die for lack of space and no where to your pretty head lay.

The responsibility lies with humans who do not spay and neuter their pets. They treat dogs as commodities, and this me upsets.
So innocent and trusting you went to your death on your last day. It is human beings who are at fault and that should have to pay.
The below link is for Lewisburg Animal Shelter in Lewisburg, Tennessee. They are a small shelter with limited space, and because dog owners are not responsible and don't have their animals spayed or neutered, many animals are euthanized at this shelter on a weekly basis. These are beautiful, healthy, young dogs. The adoption area of Marshall County, Tennessee is saturated, and therefore, only a handful of people can adopt these animals.It is so unfair to drop off pets simply because you do not want them anymore. Find them a home or advertise them in a free paper. Put up flyers, sell them to a good home, but don't take them to a shelter where they will be euthanized for lack of space. Animals have feelings. You can see it in their eyes and manner. Please be a responsible pet owner. It is the only way to stop euthanization of innocent animals.
